I am just recovering from H1N1- that aside I have had a dry

Resolved Question:

I am just recovering from H1N1- that aside I have had a dry cough for 3 weeks. It is no longer responding to even a prescription cough syrup.
At this point it is keeping me from sleeping and people do not want to be around me with all my coughing.
Since no doctors are open today I was thinking of going to my local ER to see if they can help. What do you think?

I am sorry you are still not feeling well.
Are you feeling short of breath with your cough?
Do you have any history of asthma?

I have been short of breath- not where it is uncontrollable- but yes.
Two years ago my family doctor thought I may be developing adult asthma and we did a few test and I did not qualify. Possibly at this time I would?
I smoked off and on for about 4 years in college- I am now 31.

My brother had asthma and passed away when he was 4 years old.

Oh, I am so sorry to hear about your brother.

If you are feeling short of breath along with this cough, it would be a good idea to seek more medical attention (urgent care or emergency).
You would likely benefit from oral steroids and an inhaler to help with both of your symptoms.

Feel free to ask any follow up questions you may have.
I hope that you feel better soon.
