I was bitten by something Monday, I did not see what it was but it has swollen up, has blisters, redness, alot of heat. Half of my neck is red and swollen. The area around the bite is blistered and hard underneath the skin, it is hard and about the size two cherry tomatoes. I saw a doctor on Tuesday who gave me an antibiotic and a creme for the wound area. I have an appointment tommorrow with my dermatologist at 8:30 a.m. but the area is quite painful and I feel like it is still swelling. Should I wait till my apointment tommorrow or go to the emergency room now.Susan Gill, female, age 58

Hello,Have you and any blood tests / any other medicines ?Regards,
No, the doctor did not do a blood test, but put me oncephalexin 500mg 3 times a day. I have completed two days worth of these antibiotics but the swelling and redness and heat still continues to grow.
Hello,
This seems to be an Allergic/ Inflammatory reaction to the bite.
At home, you can take an Anti-Inflammatory medicine like Advil / Tylenol and an Anti histaminic like Allegra / Zyrtec, that should help you for now.
If this still persists, you can consider going ot the ER, for a shot of an Antihistaminic agent to help relieve this swelling and redness.
Kind Regards, Dr.Joshi
