Can Lodine cause severe colon pain?
Gender: FemaleAge: 38 Already Tried: Been to the ER. Have alot of right sided lower quad pain that radiated to the left lower abd. The colon itself feels "Raw". Like painful passage of stool and painful passage of gas. Had CT scan done of abd. WBC was 12,000. Ct scan show nothing except stool in the bowel and a right ovarian cyst (it was intact, and I already knew I had this). It is painful if I sit down to fast or stand up too fast. There is actual pain at the rectum that shoots up to the lower abd. I was given a bottle of Mag Citrate to drink and I did that...have crapped myself to death today and the pain remains. The Whole abd. is so tender to touch with alot of rebound tenderness. I am a nurse and I really wonder what is going on. I don't buy that I was just "constipated". I have been on Lodine for about 3 months r/t a chronic foot surgery. Any ideas?
HelloCustomer
Your symptoms sound like a severe case of colitis. Lodine does have side effects of abdominal pain, intestinal irritation and bleeding among alot of other things. If you have never had these kind of symptoms, even remotely similar, (like IBS) I would bet this is a reaction to the Lodine.
Since you have already done the laxative route, to calm things down in your colon, you might try a big dose of Metamucil. Don't laugh---I know what most nurses think about metamucil if they have never taken it. But for a painful colon with that kind of pain, a few days of Metamucil twice a day will calm it down.
There are other fiber supplements also, but none work quite as well. And do not do tabs or wafers. You need the powder. It will make some smooth bulk to soothe your intestinal tract. If for some reason you don't want to use psyllium powder (it can cause gas in some people), try Citrucel. But take a larger dose than the label says, and make sure you use enough water with it.

Would Miralax work? I forgot to type in my answer above..I just had a colonoscopy in June and everything was great except some polyps removed.
