The doctors in Europe want to do an open heart surgery on my mother claiming that the pericardium thickened over the years due to some untreated viral infections in the past, and now the heart is not functioning well and she is diagnosed with congestive heart failure. How successful those surgeries are and what is the recovery time,? She is 68 years old and all her medical problems are and have been related to her heart in the past.

The surgery is called pericardiectomy. The results of the surgery are excellent and most of the patients recover within 2-3 weeks.
