My father (75 yr old with high BP) has been sick for more than ten days now with persistent cold and fever, has taken 5 days antibiotic course without effects - his chest x-ray has found some water retained in one of his lungs. He feels very weak and burning sensation in body, everyday fever comes and goes. Doctor says it is viral and will be alright with food and medicine. My father is taking water, fruits and soup - does not like eating any proper solid food. I am worried, what is your diagnosis and suggested treatment - a second opinion is necessary
Gender: MaleAge: 75 yrs Already Tried: Anti-biotics 5-day course
Hello,Has your father had any blood tests ?Regards,
Yes - for malaria (nil), blood sugar (random 119mgdl), lucocytis, neturophils, eosinophils, lymphocitis - all normal, heamoglobin (10.7gms/dl), ESR (88mm first hour)
Urin test - 27mgdl
Hello,
His ESR appears to be raised, this can indicate a low grade infection.
Also, his symptoms have not got better for 10 days now.
It would be advisable to get a Blood / Sputum Culture Sensitivity test done to look for an infection and treat it appropriately.
You can consider having a second opinion about this.

Could you please explain exactly what has happened to my father in your opinion?
Also, what are you suggesting for his medication and diet to be followed now.

Since he has water in his lungs, this can be from a respiratory infection, and he might be having a cough with phlegm, Testing respiratory secretions by having a Culture and Sensitivity of the Phlegm that he might be bringing up would give the cause of this infection.
If he is not bringing up any phlegm, then a Blood Culture might be able to identify the infection.
This test would tell what Antibiotic is most effective against the causative agent and startign that antiboitic would help cure the infection.
He can have a normal easy to digest diet, which also invluded vegetables and fruits, that would help boost his immunity.
