I work with clients at a shelter. There has been a confirmed case of pertussis of one of her children. I have had contact with this client in the past 3 weeks. Conversation, providing assitance with transportation. I am experiencing some cold symptoms including coughing at night, slight temp 99.6, and swollen glands. Should I be around others until I know for sure if this is going to develop into something??

Hi,Considering your symptoms, you should try to avoid close contact with others for few days, till the symptoms resolve. Pertussis is a highly contagious disease, and can spread through close contact and through mucus droplets in the cough or sneeze. Also you should see a doctor yourself, for examination and treatment. A throat culture can be done to identify the causative agent. Regards.
Does close contact involve a family get together, working?
Yes, that can be considered close contact. However get togethers can be done if proper precautions are followed including frequent hand washing, keeping safe distance when coughing and sneezing, keeping the room well ventilated etc.
