Hello I have a question regarding water retention, or overnight weight gain. I exercise vigorously 3-5 days a week, I eat a very low calorie diet with never more than a serving of toast in carbs a day, and also have IBS, which I am in moderate control of. So, why is it, that my weight is never consistent on a daily basis? I am taking Jolessa for birth control and have been on it for about 13 months. I will be 118 pounds, then suddenly overnight, jump to 119. I will then drink lots of water and be careful with what I eat. The weight then wont budge. Then suddenly, it will jump up again to 120. I am so confused as I seem to be doing everything in my power to TRY to maintain the 118. Is this a symptom of my IBS, of my stomach not emptying out in the morning when I weigh myself, or could it be the birth control? Thanks!

I think you are looking too closely at your weight. Weight fluctuates during the day as part of the normal processes, and indeed fluctates over the month with hormone changes. Measuring your weight once a week at the same time of day is the recommendation for people who want to keep an eye on their weight.

As part of a balanced diet you do need to include some carbohydrate energy sources otherwise you run the risk of hypoglycaemia. The important thing is to achieve a weight range around a BMI of 20 which is considered 'normal'.

What is your height?
