I am 40 years old and in the last 3 to 4 months I have begun to perspire profusely. Whether it is a hot day or not, if I am doing any type of activity (even playing with my 2 yr old) my underarms are soaked as well as my forehead. My head sweats the most; even in the middle of the night. I am a little bit overweight but not too much. I have checked my bloodsugar for diabetes and found that I am right on the border. everything else is normal. I recently went on adipex and I know that this doesn't help my situation (probably makes it worse) but this started before the adipex. Could I be going through menopause at 40? are these possible symptoms? thank you in advance for your response.

Hello, As you describe there may be possibility of Hot flashes due to hormonal changes during perimenopause.
The fluctuations in estrogen and progesterone hormones along with FSH (follicular stimulating hormone) and LH (leutinizing hormone)) are the cause of symptoms of perimenopause.
It is common in mid 35 to early 40s.
It can result in night sweats , hot flashes sometimes mood swings and in later stages irregular periods.
You should eat low-fat, high-fiber diet that's rich in fruits, vegetables and whole grains,calcium-rich foods or take a calcium supplement.
You should do regular exercises and deep breathing exercises regularly.
Other possible causes include thyroid disorder which should be ruled out as well.
I suggest you to consult your OBS/GYN doctor for further evaluation and management.
I have actually tested my thyroid numberous times thinking this was the culprit behing my being overweight all of my life. I am on the very bottom of the levels but still normal.
Perimenopause should be ruled out in your case. You need to undergo a clinical examination and Blood work to check up hormonal levels for further evaluation .I suggest you to consult your OBS/GYN doctor for further evaluation and management.I hope this helps.
