my wife has not had a bowel for 4 days now. ExLax worked the one time she took it but nothing since. She also has what she says a dull constant pain - maybe the kidney area.
Is she passing any gas? Any other medical history? Have you been to a doctor? Thanks
We have not been to a doctor. It started a few days ago by vomiting and severe stomach pain. The next day and since then no bowel. Tried suppository - nothing. Milk of Magnesia - nothing. ExLax worked - produced one bowel. She has not had a bowel since the Ex Lax. We thought we'd give it a day to see if she was back to normal. Also complains of bloating as well as that dull pain in the lower right back - kidney area we think. She did have a kidney infection once but after childbirth. She passed gas with ExLax but other than that she says it's very little gas - not like normal. She has been drinking lots of water and cranberry juice and we've had her off and on Advil.
Thanks for all the information. There are chances that your wife is having obstruction of intestine. Common cause for intestinal obstruction are Chemical, electrolyte, or mineral disturbances, Decreased blood supply to the abdominal area, Intra-abdominal infection, Kidney or lung disease, Adhesions or scar tissue that form after surgery,Foreign bodies,Gallstones, Hernias,Impacted feces (stool),Intussusception, Tumors blocking the intestines, Volvulus (twisted intestine)etc. Without any delay a visit to a doctor is recommended. Details examination , few blood test, abdominal radiograph , ultrasound will be required to reach a diagnosis initially. If your doctor is not available you can also visit ER. Thanks
