I have what appears to be a round raised blood blister on the upper part of my inside thigh. I rubbed it with a towel and it started to bleed. the bleeding stopped after applied pressure. It is perfectly round about half a centimeter in diameter and red in color. It does not hurt. I am panicking that it is something scary like melanoma. Any ideas?

HelloCustomer and thank you for coming to JustAnswer with your question.
Don't freak out! It's not melanoma. Melanoma does not appear as a blood blister. Blood blisters are generally caused by friction (like a normal blister, but more friction will cause bleeding into the blister), or can be caused by an allergic reaction to an irritant, or an infection (like a fungal infection).
For now, just keep the area clean and dry to allow it to heal. If it heals without any further problem, it was probably due to some skin irritant or friction.
If, however, you develop more of these blisters (do not pop them), and/or they are painful, itchy, spreading, or you develop any redness, swelling, increased warmth in the area, any drainage or secretions----you need to see your health care provider right away for treatment of a possible infection. The infection could be caused by a number of things (viruses, fungus, bacteria) so you would need it evaluated by your health care provider for appropriate treatment.
Take care.

I have been on line, which is probably silly because some of the pictures scare me, but it looks abit like dermatofibroma. Would this be possible?
HelloCustomer
Dermatofibroma lesions usually appear on the lower part of your leg, and are painful. So, I don't think thats it. And it is a "nodule", not a blister that breaks. A nodule is a solid bump. Melanoma also (which I meant to describe to you before) is a solid lesion whether it is flat or bumpy. These lesions are a very dark brown to blue black in color, and do not appear as blood blisters.
I don't want to lead you with my attempt to diagnose. This is perfectly round, raised by about 1/4 cm and a diameter of 1/2 cm. It is a pinkish red in color. When I prick it it bleeds. When it stops bleeding it resumes its original shape and size. There are no other surrounding colors or marks. Thank you for your best attempt at diagnosise. I am very nervous about it. Thank you. PS I cannot recall any trauma to the area.
Hello,
Sorry, the site is giving me grief today.
Anyway, its not a problem. We are here to help. I am looking at a site that has pictures of different things. So far, the closest I can get to what you are describing is Basal cell carcinoma. (its easily treated and not malignant just so you know that up front). Click on the picture to enlarge it.

Thank you. Did you find what you were looking for?
Yes, the picture looks very similar. I am trying not to worry but the thought of cancer puts me in a very anxious state. I guess I should go see a dermatologist. Thanks for your help.
Don't worry, from your description this area is extremely small. Basal cell carcinoma can be completely removed with no further recurrence. It is a "benign" lesion. The problem with these type of lesions come when people don't have them removed, because they will just keep growing and might eventually cause damage to other tissues.
A dermatologist can take care of this without a problem.
Best wishes to you, and don't worry!
Thank you so much. You have made me feel so much better. I appreciate your patience with me in answering and addressing all my fears.
