I am a 32 year old female, living in South Texas, married for 13 years with three boys, ages 9, 7, and 12 years. I work full-time as does my husband. I am approximately 30 to 40 pounds overweight, but have no health problems. My question is this: Every once in a while, when either bending over while working or even when I laugh really hard, I get what I would describe as a "blood pressure headache". My head will pound to the point where I can't open my eyes. It will last about 15 seconds, then be gone, and I'm fine. My blood pressure has ALWAYS been between 90/65 and 110/90. High blood pressure does run in my family, but I get mine checked often (I work in a lab at a hospital). What causes these? And how can I stop them?? It's embarrassing when it happens in front of other people.....and it's painful!!

Hello, This could be what is known as a menstrual headache, a menstrual aura, or a migraine aura. Other things I would be concerned about are an anuerysm in the brain - and this happens mores so to women than to men - and usually not found until it is too late - and since it is PAINFUL - I would really recommend talking to your doctor about getting a MRI/CT scan of the brain, especially of the blood vessels. Take care.
