I have been having bouts os severe dizziness and vertigo for the past few days...and once last week while I was on a sailboat. I cooked several times a day with a little propane stove and I wonder if I might have some kind of gas poisoning? It is worth saying I have been not well for awhile anyway, and had been experiencing vertigo before, but it has been much worse since this trip on the boat...i have been home since Sunday and away from the stuff - symptoms started in earnest Tuesday afternoon, although there was one spell on the boat in the middle of the night of having bedspins while laying down ....also, the dizziness got worse when I lay down, not so bad standing up, just whoozy
Gender: FemaleAge: 44 Already Tried: nothing, as I am wondering if it will wear off over time, or if enough time has passed to rule out the possibility of it being propane poisoning, so that maybe there is something else going on...
Do you have any signs of an ear infection? Have you ever had an inner ear infection? What stuff have you been away from - the gas stove or the boat?
Hi there - i do not seem to have an ear infection, and no fever...i have been off the boat and not cooking with the stove since Sunday morning.
And these symptoms are still there?
yes - i am still having the symptoms - was not having them Sunday night - Tuesday and today and the one night during last week on the boat
i remember a few years ago my husband had to go to the ER after coming back from a weekend with an alcohol stove that he used in his boat, although it was more enclosed, while I was just using it, being close to it, but there was an open hatch at all times - but I just remember that he felt very dizzy and was treated for vertigo, so i thought there might be something like that going on with me
That is a possibility. So you were ok on Sunday but have had the symptoms yesterday, today, and one night last week while on the boat however you have not been on the boat since Sunday of this week. Correct?Have you tried taking Dramaine with the active ingredient being meclizine in it? This is one of the medicines that is used to vertigo and dizziness for motion sickness as well as Meniere's disease.
i have not tried that -
YOu can get it over the counter at a pharmacy or a Wal-mart or Meijer type store in the pharmacy section. It tells you how much to take and how often. There is a different Dramamine that has a different med in it but the one with meclizine is the same as Antivert which is prescribed for motion sickness. If it doesn't help or you continue to feel worse, please contact a doctor so they can check you over. If you have been away from the stove though and your problems are still there, I doubt if the stove caused it.Let me know if I can help you again. thanks - so you are saying that effects from the stove are not likely to linger this long or be intermittent like this? it is likely caused by something else?
Yes, it could be related to something else. If you were still exposed to the stove and your symptoms were still there, then I would think they were related but since you state that you have been away from the stove since Sunday, I don't see a strong connection. When your husband had problems, did his symptoms occur differently than your's?
thinking back on it, i think it was that night after he got home, and he was dizzy driving home, as well - so .....
You should see the doctor so they can check your oxygen level & such.If you do that, don't take the dramamine yet.
