I am female, age 61, about 40lbs overweight. I have a bulging muscle that runs from below my breastbone to my bellybutton. I only noticed it about six to eight months ago. My GP said it is a muscle that lays above the other of the abdomen, but I can't remember the name. If I remember correctly, he said it is not serious, and I was probably born with it? or the tendency towards it? Can you tell me the name of the muscle and anything else about it? I was concerned that it was a hernia, or tumor, but he said no. Thank you.

Helllo, This is most likely a hernia - it has nothing to do with your muscle, but the fascial sheath above the muscles as the fascia is what keeps the muscles and your abdominal contents inside you. A general surgeon would be about to correct this. Take care.
