i have white pus spots on my tonsils, does this mean i for certain have strep throat? also, i have a 5month old baby that i care for all day every day, should i be taking her to the doctor as well?
Gender: FemaleAge: 25 Already Tried: gargling with warm salt water
The white spots you see are spots of pus .This suggest associated bacterial infection .You should be seen by an ENT doctor .Your doctor will advise a throat culture and sensitivity testing .A throat culture is a test to find the bacteria causing infection. If bacteria grows in the culture, other tests may be done to check which antibiotic will treat the infection best. This is called susceptibility or sensitivity testing
i do not have any health insurance and neither does my daughter, is it absolutely necessary to have this testing done as it adds to the cost of the visit? and should i be taking my daughter to a pediatrician to receive testing as well, symptoms or not? trying to find a cost effective solution in a bad economy.
As such throat culture and sensitivity testing is helpful to detect the specific strain of bacteria so doctor may prescribe antibiotics according to the specific strain. But some times doctor can prescribe antibiotic based upon his clinical sense but that is solely dependant on doctor skill and experience .You should consult your ENT doctor for further evaluation and management. As if her general condition is fine and has no symptoms you need not to take her to doctor. However you should take preventive measures like wash your hands, avoid contacting her with the tiny droplets after cough, sneeze, or breath.I hope this helps.
