Any trauma to the vaginal area?
Any sex just before the swelling?

This is most likely from the sex. The genital skin if very sensitive, and can be damaged easily. This can happen when there is not enough lubrication and the labia fold is rubbed.

If she develops any odor, or itching she needs to see her doctor for possible yeast infection.

it was actually, way more lubricated than usual, that I had to dry it a bit. on her belly.

She cant tell if there is anything in it like puss or anything but its extremely painful
Expert: Smoore replied 7 years ago.
Can you examine is and let me know if you see anything?
Customer: replied 7 years ago.
yes, I just did....what would I be looking for. its red and swollen like a fat lip on just one side. no discharge, no puss, no strong oders, no bleeding. no fungus...
Expert: Smoore replied 7 years ago.
The whole area is red?
Anything that looks like a bump or pimple?
Is her discharge different in any way? Watery?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
there is no discharge at all.

the area is not any more red than usual except for the top right of one side, its slightly a small patch of red and the same thing on the bottom left side of the swollen lip. But, it doesnt look like a pbump or pimple.

The entire swollen labia is a bout an inch tall and a half of an inch thick.

Hello;

Thank you for writing in today.

Since Smoore is no longer online, I may be able to help you with this question.

From what you describe, with this affecting just one side, this could be a Bartholan's gland cyst. Cysts can be very painful and cause a great deal of swelling in the area. All women have these glands, they secrete lubrication for the vagina. They are relatively small and unnoticeable, unless bacteria enters the gland, and it becomes infected. In addition, there is the possibility of a micorabrasion that has become infected. At any rate, she will need to be seen by her provider. This will likely require antibiotic therapy.

I hope this helps.

Lisa

is it an emergency situation, can it get worse...?
Expert: Lisa, MSN, FNP-BC, CCRN replied 7 years ago.

It can get more uncomfortable. If this is infact the case, it is not considered emergent, and she could go in in the morning. A sitz bath may actually help some of the discomfort; however, if it is too uncomfortable, and there is an Urgent Care Center in the area, she may want to go in for some antibiotics.

I was able to find a medical image of a cyst. This can give you a general idea to compare it. CLICK HERE. THIS IS A GRAPHIC IMAGE....

I appreciate your time Ms. Lisa, but I dont think that could be it, it doesnt really look like those pictures....the lip seems much more isolated.

But, we plan on taking her in to the doctor soon. We are exhausted and need to get some sleep Moore really wasted our time, we waited a long time for his answers and then he abandoned us.

Again, we do appreciate your time.

Well, fortunately it does not look like a cyst; therefore, from what you describe, I would suspect perhaps a small microtear became infected with some bacteria. It does happen. As for her comfort, a sitz bath might still help with the pain.

I hope you have a good evening and get some sleep.

Lisa
