I get some light pain in my left leg and my big toe dumbs, when I put on stockings that have heavy support the pain goes away what could this be, I am 62, blood pr3essure and chiolesteral good, I am 5'6" and am very active and eat rather healthy
Gender: FemaleAge: 62 Already Tried: The stockings, high socks I purchased in a medical supply store
Hello, do you have any pain in your back?
Do you have swelling of the ankles?
Can you describe the location and type of pain in your leg. How often does it occur?
You mention that your big toe becomes numb. Is there any change to color or temperature of the toe or foot?
no back pain, other than lower back when I do too much, very rare occasion my ankles would swell but not often at all,
Sometimes my feet feel hot and I soak them in cold water, I am extremely active and on my feet all day
The pain in my leg is subtle hard to describe, sort of outer thigh and calf, it will happen every day (left leg) so now I wear the tight knee sock/stocking and it doesn't bother me, but if I don't wear it, then it feels sore again and my big toe will get numb, doesn't get numb with the stocking
Thanks for the extra information. Stockings tend to be helpful when there is an element of vascular compromise, so if you find that stocking are reducing pain and there is no ankle swelling then I would recommend that you see a doctor for a cardiovascular check up. A measure of blood pressure at ankle and arm would help clarify if you have reduced blood supply to the feet, while a Doppler scan of the legs would look at venous return.
As you do not mention change of color or temperature of the foot then I do not think that this is urgent to investigate however it might suggest that you have a tendency to cardiovascular problems in the future.

I had been diagnosed with tinnitus, I wasn't that impressed with the Dr. saw me, he said i have very slight hearing loss in one year, not enough affect my hearing ability. The tinnitus he pretty much said I will get used to the buzzing sound in myears. Well it's a year now and I am not used to the sound, sometimes it drives me crazy. i have been told a hearing aid might help muffle the sound, if this is true can you recommend a hearing aid? I tried the amplifier aid, but it seems to be heavy and causes a pain where it sits int he ear
Do you hear the tinnitus all day long, or it worse at certain times of the day or different environments?
It is all day all the time, when I am stressed or tired it definitley get louder, but it is always buzzing
Tinnitus is one of those problems that it very distressing for the patient, but is poorly understood by many doctors. If ear wax or other problem with the tympanic membrane has been ruled out then there are few treatment options to stop the tinnitus completely however the use of a 'masking device' or 'white noise device' and some training can allow you to learn to reduce the impact of the noise and readjust to living with the problem.
Ideally you need to find a center which specializes in managing tinnitus with sound therapy and
Here is are useful websites with information : here and here
I have seen some people learn to live successfully with tinnitus but it takes time and practice to learn to filter out the unnecessary sounds and concentrate on other areas. If your hearing loss is only low level, then I would see how you manage without a hearing aid until the tinnitus issue is dealt with first.
