my 22 year old daughter was recently dx with hep.c. she is a recovering iv heroin user currently in rehab. she sees a specialist next week. i'm literally paralyzed with fear being an rn i know how dangerous this is. is it possible for her to lead a normal life while taking the appropriate precautions?

Hepatitis is the inflammation of the liver.It is caused by hepatitis C virus .

In chronic cases,the treatment for this disease lasts from 24 to 48 weeks

The treatment includes- combination of peginterferon and ribavirin, which attacks the hepatitis C virus.

Further Peginterferon is taken through weekly shots and ribavirin is taken daily by mouth.

The early diagnosis and treatment can help in preventing the liver damage.

Also if the , if chronic hepatitis C causes liver failure , then a liver transplant is considered. Yes, she should be given medications. Yes, she can healthy as before.You should not panic, and get her examined next week.
