Hello, I was wondering, if I received several normal EKG's and two echocardiogramsm from seperate doctor's, even if they weren't specifically looking for hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, is it possible they missed this condition? I was being checked because of persistent tachycardia and skipped beats, and because my father died from Wolff-Parkinson's White at 25. They didn't mention this condition but I was just wondering if it is something that is obvious on an echocardiogram ir does it need to be specifically looked for. Also do beta blockers relieve the symptoms of this if you have it?
Gender: FemaleAge: 21 Already Tried: Toprol xl 50 mg symptoms-feel like breathing is restricted, still get skipped beats, sometimes runs
Hello, Greetings, Did you have the EKGs during tachycardias? What was the rhythm then? Regards.
Yes I had a holter monitor, they said it was a normal rhythm, also once in the ER it went up to 170 also normal rhythm. The skipped beats are PVC's according to the docotr and sometimes I get more than one in a row.
Thank you for the input.Premature ventricular complexes are usually harmless , if not in excessive numbers. Certain condition may predispose . These are excessive tea, coffee ,alcohol, anxiety , stress etc which need to be avoided. WPW syndrome is diagnosed from EKG where a particular wave called delta wave is seen. This is from an accessory pathway activation of ventricles.Echo will not be helpful in its diagnosis. Electrophysiological studies can be helpful in diagnosing. But when repeated EKGs are normal then WPW syndrome is probably not there.Hope this information will help you.Wish your healthy life. Any query, please ask. Regards.

Hi I was more specifically wondering about Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. Is this something that stands out on an echocardiogram and EKG? Thanks
Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy is a different condition from WPW . Hypertrophic cardiomyopathy is thickening of the muscle layer of the heart, which can be detected with echocardiogram. Your echocardiogram is normal , so cardiomyopathy is not evident.
