In the last couple of weeks my mom's face has gotten very swollen looking, almost like a steroid face, her ankles are huge and in the last few days she is noticing a bitter taste when she eats...she has scheduled an appointment with the doctor, but she can't get in until the 24th, I'm concerned this might be too late, her face is almost unrecognizable, she was seriously ill last year with DVT and PE following a Cholecystectomy...she has HTN and takes meds...should I encourage her to get in sooner?
Gender: FemaleAge: 67 Already Tried: She's done nothing so far, and she is looking worse to me, swelling originally started around the eyes, now it's her whole face
Certainly this is very concerning and as the 24th is 9 days away -- I would really urge your mom to get this seen sooner -- as it seems she is having a problem with fluid retention or swelling that would need to be addressed sooner than this.
Certainly, at the minimum, having evaluation by a doctor and having bloodwork done is needed, and unless she can get into see her doctor right away, having her go to urgent care may be more appropriate, since my fear of worsening of swelling in the face is problems with swallowing and more importantly breathing -- as those are critical functions.
