i was talking to my sister and all of a sudden i went almost deaf in my left ear such as happens when your ear starts ringing like some is talking about you (is the old wives tale) and then my ear started to pop and now it is making tin sounds in my ear when i hear noises such as clapping swallowing or talking on the phone as my voice sounds tinny. should i be concerned as it has been this way for a few hours now

Have you recently had any trauma to you ear such as being hit on that side of you face with anything or perhaps a severe fit of sneezing?
Have you been using cotton buds in your ear?
Is there any blood or straw coloured fluid coming from the ear?

i have not had any kind of injury to my ear and use q tips to clean my ears but not for several hours before i have nothing draining out of my ear nor do i have an earache
That is good. I waconcerned that it may be a perforated ear drum but that is obviously not the case.
There are several other things it could be.
The onset of an ear infection. If you have any dizzy spells then it will be a middle or inner ear infection. Sometimes these need antibiotic but in general tend to clear up on their own. You could get tablets from the doctor though to help control the dizziness.
Tinnitis is something else I am wondering aout. If this persists through tomorrow, I would suggest you see your doctor. You are describint classic symptoms of this but i am hoping this is transient and will not last.
Another possibility is that you have got water in your ear perhaps from the shower or washing your hair? If this is the case it will dry out by itself.
The only other thing is a build up of wax, but it sounds as though you do not allow that to happen. It could however be hard wax which you are not able to reach with your Q tip. I would not suggest that you use any form of ear drops totry to loosen it though unless you let your doctor check your ear first.
My personal feeling is that it is an infection and may require antibiotic drops.
Whatever the cause I think a visit to the doctor or practice nurse would be a good idea just to let them look inside.
I hope this helps. I am sorry I cannot be conclusive but it really could be any of the things I have mentioned.
I do hope it is feeling better very soon.
