Hello, I see you are offline, but I would like to ask you a few questions...
You mentioned that you checked your blood sugar, are you diabetic or do you have any other health problems that you know of?
Do you take any medications?
Any recent injury to that ankle or old injuries...?
I take a blood pressure pill same one I have taken for the past 5 years and my blood pressure has been under control for years, I have never had swollen ankles before, In June on vacation in Georgia I stepped into a hill of fire ants and was bitten about 20 times on the right ankle recieved no treatment just used benadryl and hydrocortizone cr. I take Diovan 160/25 for my blood pressure and pristiq 50 mg. for pms symptoms have taken it for a month and I am also on horomone replacement therapy all natural compounded at a compound pharmacy estrogen and progesterone drops.have used the horomone therapy for a year. no recent injuries other than the fire ants.
Thanks for the reply
Swollen ankles can have many causes actually. I will list several things that might be causing your problems. First of all, if only ankle is involved (and not the leg or foot), it could be related to a trauma or injury to that one particular ankle or a disease process like arthritis in that ankle or foot. If both are involved, you will need to consider things like gout or gouty arthritis, venous insufficiency, kidney disease, higher than normal sodium intake, prolonged standing/sitting, arthritis, wearing tight shoes, congestive heart failure, and deep vein thrombus.
I would suggest you try to keep your feet propped up and try to stay off of your feet the next few days. Cut back on any high sodium foods that you may be consuming (read your labels) and call your Dr if it is not improving within the next few days or you start developing new symptoms like a warm, swollen calf, trouble walking, shortness of breath, or any other unusual symptoms. Also, the use of anti-inflammatory drugs will help (such as Advil or Aleve) unless you are allergic.
The burning-type feeling could just be from the swelling itself...but most likely is related to some type of inflammation process that is going on as usually, sudden onset of ankle swelling is due to inflammation with the absence of any other symptoms. But again, if the ankle continues to swell or worsens, you should consider see your Dr for xrays and blood work.
Hope this helps!
