if my ultra sound for abdominal/gall bladder came back normal, why has the doctor ordered a cat scan for abdominal. I have have two episodes of nausea/vomiting/ twice in a morning one day and once day after. Also three weeks prior I have nausea followed by vomiting once. I was fine all day and for the three weeks when I have same episode. I am also under a lot of stress that the doctor knows about and has me on 20mg. of celexa.
Optional Information: Gender: FemaleAge: 74State/Country: New York Already Tried: I DRANK FENNEL TEA SECOND AND THIRD TIME. I also was told to take Align because that doctor diagnosed me with IBS ten years ago. I feel better almost right away after episode. Want to mention before the nausea I have extreme amount of belching before nausea.
Well, if you are having symptoms that are concerning to your doctor, further testing is helpful. The ultrasound can take a look at certain structures, such as the gall bladder, liver, pancreas, kidneys fairly well. But the rest of the abdomen and pelvis (like the stomach, intestines, other organs) are often better seen with the CT scan. So given your symptoms -- your doctor wants to get the test that can "see" all of the abdominal organs to help evaluate your symptoms. Because the ultrasound can evaluate only certain areas of the abdomen, if it comes up normal, often further testing is required.
