Customer Question

I'm XXXXX XXXXX in Temple Terrace. 65 year old white male generally great health. I'm pretty sure I have "shingles". Last Sunday I came down with a bad rash in the small of my back followed by considerable pain and discomfort on my right side around my waist line. Original Rash is drying up but more is coming around my right side.
Can you recommend a specialist I might go see tomorrow?
And/or some "over the counter" treatment I might try?
Thank you,
mike

Hello,

Welcome to just answer,

It is a viral infection that causes a painful rash. Also known as herpes zoster.

You need to see a dermatologist or a skin specialist.

Treatment for this condition is High doses of an antiviral drug to reduce the duration and severity of your symptoms. You will require your doctor's prescription.

Mean while do not scratch and take over the counter Pain medication like ibuprofen if required. Apply cool tap-water compresses and keep the area clean with mild soap and water.

Application of petroleum jelly can help in healing.

Wear loose clothing and avoid close skin-to-skin contact with others.
