I have had numbness and tingling for three weeks in my pinkie and inside ring finger. I think it's an ulnar nerve problem, but my physicians want me to wait until August 25 to have it tested for carpal tunnel. I think I should make a faster appointment with an orthopaedist but, if I have to continue to wait for treatment, is there any "home remedy" or exercise, etc., that might help so that the muscles don't get too weak? Is surgery the only "answer" for this particular nerve problem? Thank you. Virginia

HiI am sorry to hear that you have to wait so long to have the test done. Surgery is not the only option its is only reserved for severe cases. What we usually like to try first in an anti-inflamatory such as tylenol or Motrin, I would suggest taking it as per the dicerctions in the bottle for at least 4 to 5 days this will get rid of any inflamation on the ulnar nerve and hopefully rleive some of your symptoms. What some patients also finf helpful is wearing a wrist band this helps to stabilize the nerve and take some pressure offf of it. yu can find a wrist band in most pharmacies. DoctorL40019.8075926273
I've worn a wrist guard for a week with no help. The elbow guard seems to help a little because of the location of the ulnar nerve. I don't want to compress this nerve any more than is necessary it that will aid the healing. Should I limit my wrist/elbow movement or just carry on as usual, within reason?
Hi again There is no reason why you should completely imobilize the area. You should wear the band as long as you possibly can in oder to take the pressure off the ulnar nerve. otherwise you should continue your activities as normal ofcourse within reason.
