I have dark spots (chocolate color) in the corner of my mouth.

Resolved Question:

I have dark spots (chocolate color) in the corner of my mouth. It started as one dark spot and this morning is 3 spots. I am very ataxic in my mouth, biting myself inside my mouth frequently. I had very low (near a hernia scar) intestinal pain several months ago. I am a 52 yo male with diagnosed (via MRI) MS.   I've also gone out of business, so I have that added stress. Could stress cause these symptoms?

Hi,

Are you on any medications? Are you a diabetic or hypertensive?

Hi and thanks,
No, I am not diabetic or hypertensive. I have over two yrs ago done IVIG, multiple IV infusions of cortosteriods (1g/day for 5 days), Rebif, Flomax, Celexa, Provigil, Allegra, DitropanXL. I currently (since I can't afford meds because of business) take only generic Klonopin and prescription Naproxen (1g.day supplemented by OTC Aleve.)

I forgot to tell you, I had 400 units of Botox in my back and neck about 5 years ago once every 4 or so months for about a year.

Hi,

Some causes of the symptoms you mention, could be lip biting, lip licking, Vit.B2 deficiency, smoking, overexposure to sunb. In extreme cases, this could be due to bacterial or fungal skin infection.

You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day and eat a balanced diet. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene .
