A single hot knee means an inflammatory pathology.The most probable reason looks to be an infection.It will be better for you to consult to your doctor & get an urgent blood investigation like Total & Differential blood count & ESR,CRP.This will rule out the pathology.A septic arthritis which occur due to infection in the knee needs urgent care with antibiotics & surgical evacuation of any pus.
