The pain severity gradually goes down after 48 hours and most of the times it takes about 3-5 days for pain to go down completely. The pain depends on the severity of the infection and number of diverticulum involved.The alarming signs are;
1) Pain not remitting in 3 days or increasing or becoming severe, anytime. Any pain which is continuous and above the level of 7 or more constantly (on the scale of 0-10), warrants intravenous antibiotics.
2) Bloating, distension, severe constipation are signs of the emergency.

what if i lose my appetite, i do have bloating, my own doctor said my flattened stools are the cause of a bowel obstruction could that be from an abcess?
Any infection in the body causes loss of appetite. Abscess formation have following signs;
1) High grade fever,
2) Severe constipation; even difficult to pass gas
3) Excessive tenderness on abdomen
4) Bloating or distension
Distension does show that infection is not properly controlled and only liquid diet should be taken.
