Customer Question

I am pregnant. I took the usual blood and urine test at my prenatal visit including HIV. My dr.s office called me today and asked me to come in Friday for my results. By law if it is a positive HIV result can they wait that long to tell me?

Usually they do not wait if the tests are positive. So MOST LIKELY your tests may be normal.

Hello

Thank you for using JustAnswer and it is privilege to help you.

Because of the sensitivity of the issue and to honor the patient privacy act, health care providers can not disclose the results of HIV over the phone, fax or mail irrespective of the result,s negative or positive outcome.

Only and only patient has the right to know about it so that is why they called you to come to the office for result disclosure to you and also for post test counseling regarding HIV.

Best wishes and Happy new year
