Customer Question

I recently took Metronidazole (oral). It has been a couple days since my prescription ended. I was told not to drink alcohol while on the medication because it would make me sick. Is it ok to drink alcohol now?

When was the last dose of metronidazole?

Customer: replied 7 years ago.
Wednesday, the 29th.

Thank you for the input,

The average half life of metronidazole is 8 hours. So as your last dose was on 29 th you may take alcohol. However one caution is in presence of liver disease the excretion may be delayed.

Hope this information will help you.
Wish your early recovery

I was curious because WebMD's info on the drug said to wait like 3 days or so, but my doctor that prescribed it nor the pamplet that came with the presciption did not mention that. Thanks for your help

If you take the calculation by half life of a drug It will take 36 hours for metronidazole to be eliminated from the body , You have stopped 48 hours back. However a minute portion can remain to infinity theoretically. I hope this will help to clear the confusion
