Resolved Question:

blurred / loss of vision. Doctor has said there is fluid behind both eyes. they are not sure why. MRI was normal, taking steroid drips for 5 days. Have migraines and nausea. Any ideas on what is causing this loss of vision. Diabetes is negative. Yes to lyme disease, no to MS. Taking antibiotics for lyme disease. Taking water pills for eyes. Spinal tap was fine. The most common cause of 'fluid behind the eye' or Exopthalmos is Grave's disease, thyrotoxicosis. This is a condition when there is excess of thyroid hormones being produced as also other clinical conditions including deposition of fluid and cells behind the eye.

Other causes of exopthalmos are:

Sinusitis, Mucocele (a sac formed by mucous collection), Blood clot behind the eye, Brain tumor, kidney disease, liver disease.

You should ask your doctor about these causes and tests to rule them out.

You must also confirm whether your doctor truly means fluid 'behind' the eye or at the 'back' of the eye, which could mean other conditions like Macular degeneration or glaucoma. You should ask him for the proper medical term for your condition since 'fluid behind the eye' is hardly a medical diagnosis.
