I was diagnosed with Rosacea by my dermatologist last week and have began using the topical ointments biafine and cutivate after cleansing my face. Both ointments sting a bit upon initial application and overall seem to make the redness worse. I have been looking through photos of people affected with rosacea and noticed that my redness is more pinpointed to small affected areas. I was also reading about misdiagnosis of Rosacea and wondered if there was a possibility that I may be one of these cases. I have psoriasis and have dealt with it for nearly two decades, keeping it under control with daily application of dovonex. Thankfully, this works like magic and rarely have it flare up. However, I am now 27 years old and have never had any history of Rosacea (myself or family). Having psoriasis, I understand what a chronic skin disease means am very disappointed at the prospect of having to deal with yet another. Is there any way to find out if I, in fact, have been misdiagnosed?
Hello,
Welcome back to Just Answer. I'd like some more information if that would be all right. First of all, have you had the facial redness/lesions for long? What have you tried prior to this? Also, could you please post the picture?
Hi, this redness has been on and off for about a month. When I went to the dermatologist last week the redness was not bad at all and the doctor said, "Well, it COULD be Rosacea" and prescribed me the creams i mentioned in the original answer. Once i began using the creams the redness worsened and if you look at the photo in the following link, note how the redness is more rash-like, pinpointed in small random areas, than the redness associated with rosacea (google images search "rosacea") my image: http://img140.imageshack.us/img140/6554/photo1fi6.jpg Please let me know if you think I have been misdiagnosed.
Thanks for the additional information. Biafine typically causes worsening of the redness when you first begin to use it until your skin is accustomed to it. Cutivate is a steroid cream prescribed for redness and inflammation. I think I would have tried the Cutivate all by itself for a couple weeks to see if that cleared up the problem. If the Biafine is irritating, you can try using it less often. Rosacea is notoriusly difficult to diagnose, so I would seek a second opinion. If it is rosacea, you have the very beginnings of it. Typically there is a mask of redness across the cheeks and nose plus forehead and chin involvement. An oral antibiotic may be helpful if the second derm also diagnoses rosacea.

But from looking at the photo though, do you believe that this is Rosacea? Can you give me specific feedback as to what your thoughts are regarding the redness in the photo?
further, i work out about 5 times a week and CANNOT give up this regimen, i did not go today, can you give me advice about any changes I should make when i resume tomorrow?
