Resolved Question:

today i was told i have a cornea ulser,he told me to use vigamox drops every 2hrs.,& omnipred(prednisolone)drops every 4hr,I just read topical corticosteroids should not be used on any type of cornea ulser as they can prevent healing. Isn''t the omnipred a corticosteroid? I just read this on line in this area about cornea ulsers. Im worried about using this med. Please tell me how serious these ulsers are. I don''t know how I got it. I live in Fl.

Hello,

The omnipred is a corticosteroid used to reduce inflammation, these drops are delaying healing so that the antibiotic drops (vigamox) can heal any infection first. These drops are typically used for treating corneal ulcer. When you go for your follow-up visit with the eye doctor he will examine your cornea to be sure that it is healing properly.

There are different possible causes of the ulcer, and the doctor should have mentioned what might have caused it. Do you wear contact lenses?
