2 weeks ago red itchy bumps looking like insect bites ...

Customer Question

2 weeks ago red itchy bumps looking like insect bites appeared on my skin.First on my wrist on my right arm, then later that day on the elbow, the next day on the ankle then one on my knee.the next day they 3 of them in the same spot appeared on my left arm and later on the left side of my waist nin three. In short hours later or the following day they started appearing on my legs as well. It''s been 2 days now that they are healing but another one appeared earlier today in my right arm. They seem to be contagious for now they are appearing in my partner''s shoulder and a couple near the chest. What on earth is this and can it be simply contagious through skin contact or is it a STD? Thank you.

HelloCustomer

Thank you for using Justanswer for your concern.

This sounds like scabies or possibly molluscum contageum due to it appearing to be contagious. But your spots sound pretty scant, so that makes it sound like flea bites. Flea bites are usually on exposed areas, or areas like a waist band (places a flea could "hop on to".

It is much easier to tell if you have a pic you could send us.

What I will do now is send you a picture of the conditions mentioned above to see if you can identify it.

Here is the information and photos on scabies. The photos should enlarge if you click on them: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scabies

Here is information and photos on molluscum: http://www.afraidtoask.com/STD/index.html

Fleas: See further down the page for pictures of bites on skin.http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flea

Let me know what you think, then we will take it from there!

Reply to Susan Ivy's Post: Hi!Thank you very much for answering my question, though I am still worried. Though the symptoms look more like flea bites, I haven't seen any around. I noticed 2 little insects thgh a few times ago very small and with many legs, almost round-shaped,one under my matress and one on the carpet.
After I asked the question I checked myself again, and noticed more, this time like razor bumps on my buttocks and one near my vagina. They are not itchy. My partner's near the shoulder and chest are not itchy either.
I would appreciate if you take your time to answer my question. Thanks a lot,

Hi. On one of the websites that I gave you above, there is a picture of the crabs, or pediculus bug that sounds like the one your describe: http://www.afraidtoask.com/STD/index.html

Also, look here for a picture of the bed bug, which in reading can leave marks on the skin too, and possibly also sounds like the one you found. Look at the pictures and see if you think this is it: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bedbug

Tell me what you think. There is medication to apply for pediculous if you think that may turn out to be the problem. For bed bugs, it may involve getting a new mattress and doing a lot of vacumming.

Above, you mentioned you hadn't seen any fleas. You will not always, I know I have some in my house due to my dogs, that I haven't been able to exterminate, but I don't see them, I just get bit occassionally. But the bug you describe seeing did not sound like a flea.

Tell me what you think.
