Customer Question

why does my thyroid gland hurt? Sometimes I have difficulty swallowing(not real bad, just bothersome). I have a cough sometimes and itchy eyes due to allergies. Are the two connected in any way?

I want to get some more detail information about your problem-

How long the problem is there?

Do you have any swelling or lump there?

Are you having any cough now?

Waiting for your reply.

Thank you.

I have this problem for a few years and had all the appropriate tests-all normal(frustrating) I have no lump, sometimes is seems a little "puffy". I have allergies right now, so I believe my cough is from that, but didn't know if the two were related in some way. Thank you for you concern and help. I just want to know if I should be looking into my condition any further then just waiting for my thryoid to give up.

Thank you for the help.

As you were tested for TSH level a week ago & it is normal , & the gland itself is not
swollen , then it is unlikely that the pain is coming from the thyroid gland.

It may be from the underlying larynx which may be inflammed & cause the pain.

As you are having cough , it may be related to that.inflammation of larynx.

During swallowing it moves and that may cause your pain on swallowing.

Sometimes infection may supervene . Saline warm gargling may help.

If the condition progresses you should have a consultation of an ENT doctor.

I hope this will help.

Thank you. I will see an ENT doctor. I believe you are right about the larynx for various reasons. I have spasmotic dysphonia. Sorry I forgot about this because my treatments were stopped for 2 years now.
