Cisterna magna is a large cistern between the cerebellum and medulla(Parts of brain). Cistern is a CSF( cerebrospinal fluid ) filled space in a brain.Cisterna magna is the biggest CSF filled space in brain. Prominent cisterna magna is a slight larger ( more than normal ) cisterna magna. It is not a pathological or diseased condition and considered as normal variant.If very large can produce symptoms due to pressure on normal brain. It is sometimes seem on CT-SCAN or MRI of brain. Do no panic, usually no treatment is required for this.
