I want to get some more detail information about your problem-

How long it is there?

Is it painful? Red? Inflammed?

Is there any raw surface or sore over the area?

Do you have any other disease?

Do you take any other medicine?

Waiting for your reply.

Thank you.

Swelling developed after tennis match on Friday evening. Did not notice it on Saturday (had physical strain all over on Saturday) but when I woke on Sundy that area of my hand was swollen.
It has not happened for a number of years but have not been playing sport.
Not inflammed or red. If I press on the area it is sore and feel bruised.
No raw surface or sore.
I had a fall from a horse about 20 years ago and hurt my neck but did not have this checked by a doctor at the time.
I take eltroxin for under active thyroid glands.

Thank you for the information.

This hand swelling is not related to your old neck injury.

This may be due to muscle pull or local muscle injury following excessive & unaccustomed use after a long time.

Giving rest to the area & applying ice should be helpful
Also keep the part elevated as much as possible.

As it is not inflammed or red , hand infection is unlikely.

If the swelling does not get resolved with these measures or increases in size , consult your doctor to have an examination.

does a trapped nerve in neck or arthritis cause pain in hand ? should I immediately put ice on it after tennis? would the size of the racket make a difference ?
Expert:  Dr. Saha replied 8 years ago.
A trapped nerve in neck or arthritis can cause pain in the hand but it should not cause swelling.

Ice after tennis helps to reduce the size of swelling.

If a big size racket is used it may cause muscle strain, followed by swelling.

Thank you.
