There are a number of factors that determine the time until a patient would feel "normal". The longer the patient is under anesthesia, generally the longer it takes. Different medications used for anesthesia have longer duration of action and/or times until they are cleared from the body.

Body weight is another factor. Some of the medications used are fat soluble (the dissolve in fat). Patients who are overweight may have more persistent effects, particularly after longer procedures.

Also - most patients have effects (fatigue) from the sugery and the healing process itself.

In my experience by 12-24 hours most patients are back to normal, although some patients continue to feel a bit fatigued for another 24 hours.
