Does a nerve block hurt

This answer was rated:

I have impingement on the L4-5 nerves with numbness and tingling down my entire left leg. My doctor recommended a nerve block and physical therapy for this problem. I'm so worried that the nerve block will hurt. Would it be feasible to request general anesthesia for the procedure?

Nerve block will cause pain when the needle will be inserted into the area.

After that when the block has been injected you will not feel any more pain.

So for this short perid of injection general anesthesia will not be necessary.

I think this information helps.

On a scale of 1 to 10, what would you say is the pain rating? And how long does it take for the pain to stop?
It is not predictable to tell on the scale but it is like an injection with big needle.
The pain will last till the drug introduced takes its effect.
This will depend on how fast they reach the area to inject.
