Customer Question

I have these tiny white bumps on both of my legs. The front only- they go up to my thighs. They don't really itch at all. And I haven't used anything new that would cause an allergic reaction. What could this be? I've also noticed bumps under my neck area but again they don't itch and you can't really see them, only feel them.

I'll try.........

How long have you had them?

How may are there?

Are they raised?

Reply to Dr J Burk's Post: I just noticed them this morning. I did shave my legs this morning, but I haven't used any different shaving cream or razors. There are about twenty or maybe more between both of my legs.

Basically to explain them, there is a tiny red dot and then a white circle around the red dot. As far as raised? If I run my hands over my legs I can feel them...does that mean they're raised?

They do not itch, even if I touch them, I have no pain at all and if I wouldn't have been wearing a skirt today, I wouldn't have even noticed them.

The whole bump (white and red) is quite small. Defintely smaller than a penny or dime and defintely smaller than a pencil eraser, but bigger than a pin point. They're not in groups, just spread out all over. The size reminds me of chicken pox or ant bites. (I've had the chicken pox and have not been near any ants).

The ones under my neck I can't explain because I can't see them. Those feel like goose bumps - and again they don't itch.

Hi

Sounds like folliculitis.

This is inflammation of the hair follicles. Can be either bacterial or fungal.

It is more common in those who shave their legs.

I'd try an antiseptic cream in the first instance. If that is not of help then a prescription for an anti-biotic cream.

Reply to Dr J Burk's Post: I am 30 years old. Is it possible to get this after all the years I've been shaving, or like a virus, is this just something that happens?

What about the goose bump feel of the bumps under my skin. THey're tiny, white (not red at all). What could those be?

Also, I believe I am prone to dry skin. Could all of this be related?

Hi

If you have bacterial folliculitis it is simply a bacterial infection of the hair follicles.

Anyone can get it but it is slightly more common amongst those who shave.

The "goose bumps" can also by explained by inflammed hair follicles.

I would not associate your present problem with your dry skin.
