It's called "Pica"...Pica is an eating disorder typically defined as the persistent eating of nonnutritive substances. Some of the outcomes can include: malnutrition, abdominal problems, intestinal obstruction, hypokalemia, hyperkalemia, phosphorus intoxication, and dental problems, etc. So you really should speak with your doctor about this. Sometimes it can be due to deficiency within your body that may cause this craving.

Generally treatment is dependent on the cause of the pica. Anemia and zinc deficiency may be treated with supplements. Which may in return help the craving you do have. If that doesn't help then pica is treated with counseling and behavior modification techniques. Some doctors/psychiatrists are advocating the use of psychotropic medications to treat pica associated with OCD.

So although it may not kill you per-say, it is not good for your health and complications can occur. So please do talk to your doctor for proper treatment and a full physical.
