Wifes pregnant. due date 2/13. She has pretty bad cold checked fever 99. which is a little high she runs on the cold side and has generally low blood pressure, Doctor visits regularly and the words perfect has been used every time. No complications till this cold.Whats the best way to make her more comfortable. The coughing and other stuff off course makes her not feel to great so close to the do date. can she take any cold medicines?

You wife can take Actifed or Sudafed to help with the cold and mild fever. If the fever goes above 100 degrees, please give her a Tylenol 500mg tablet.

To control her cough, she can take Robitussin DM or Vicks cough Syrup.

All these medicines are safe to be used during pregnancy.

Besides these, she can also take the following home remdies:

- Gargle with hot, saline water - mix 2 teaspoonfuls of salt in 1 glass of hot water and gargle thrice daily.

- Steam inhalation - Take a bowl of hot water, and put 2 tsf of salt in it. She can also put menthol in it if you have some. Ask her to inhale the steam that rises from the water. She can put a towel over the head as she inhales for quicker relief.

- Drink a glass of warm lemon juice daily. Squeeze a wedge of lemon in a glass of warm water and mix 1 pinch of salt and 1 tablespoonful of sugar for taste. She can increase the amount of water if she finds the lemon too sour to taste

- She can suck on hard sweets - the saliva trickling down the throat will be soothing.

I hope this helps.
