how long do stitches bleed for after you get them

Resolved Question:

My wife got stitches in her thigh (9 of them) Sunday night. We woke up this morning to change the gauze and there was still blood on it (we put this new gauze on Monday night) We have not let the wound air out yet and are keeping the ointment on it at all times. Could this be why?

Some oozing and seeping of blood is normal. However, if you notice an increase in the bleeding, or if the area becomes red, inflamed, or pussy, this needs to be re-evaluated by a doctor as this would be indicative of infection.
