When sneezing or coughing my lower side hurts similar to something being pulled. What is causing this?
For how long have you had this problem? Do you have the pain only when you cough and sneeze?
The problem has been intermittent for 6-7 months. The pain occurs for ten minutes on coughing and sneezing. There are no other symptoms.
Can it be related to the appendix?
This is not a case of appendicitis as it doesn't tend to hurt for several months. However, it is important for you to see your doctor, an urgent care center, health department or clinic for your symptoms.
Since this pain only occurs when you are coughing, it is more likely to be a hernia. This is a condition where the abdominal muscles weaken allowing the contents of the abdomen to push through. This can be quite painful and dangerous especially if a loop of bowel pushes through and gets 'stuck' or strangulated, cutting off the blood supply.
The medical provider will also be able to check on your cough since no one should be coughing for 6-7 months without relief.
