Teeth/gums on lower left side started aching -I had just been to the dentist acouple days before it started and I had no problems. Now the aching has moved to the upper teeth/gums left side. I;ve had a slight sore throat for about a month - it comes/goes but nothing acouple aleves doesn't fix. That side of my face seems tingly - I'm a 56year old- very busy-woman- 5'2"-165#. Good health
Hi, There can be various causes of the numbness you are describing. In a condition named trigeminal nerve neuralgia (fifth cranial nerve) there is unilateral sensory numbness of the face followed later on by sensory loss and trophic changes.Other causes include disorders affecting the central nervous system. These include Stroke, transient ischemic attacks (TIAs or mini-strokes), multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, and infections (encephalitis). A space occupying lesion (tumor or vascular) that causes compression on the brain or spinal cord can also cause paresthesia. The symptoms you are describing indicate the numbness along the distribution of the trigeminal nerve. This can lead to herpes infection later on or further involvement of the nerve leading to atrophy.I would advise you to consult a neurologist as soon as possible because in trigeminal nerve involvement, preventive measures are very necessary.
