Pneumonia is an illness of the lungs and respiratory in which the alveoli (microscopic air-filled sacs of the lung responsible for absorbing oxygen) become inflamed and flooded with fluid. Pneumonia is caused by viruses, bacteria, parasites, fungi, chemicals, etc.. The most common bacterial pneumonia is caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. However, Staph pneumonia is caused by another bacterium, of the Staphylococcus family, probably Staphylococcus aureus.
