A properly performed blood alcohol test should NOT be elevated by anything other than alcohol.

Reply to Family Physician's Post: I don't believe this to be true. I read on the United States Search and Rescue Task Force article on Lyme Disease (http://www.ussartf.org/lyme_disease.htm)that

"On occasion, there is an added risk with some antibiotics of intestinal yeast infections that manufacture alcohol as a by-product. This can cause elevated blood alcohol levels for a few hours after meals."

My reason for submitting my question is for further information on this statement.

The source you listed is NOT a valid source of medical information. Here is an abstract from a appropriate medical source that disputes this allegation that blood alcohol results would be influenced by the "auto brewery" claim

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/entrez/query.fcgi?itool=abstractplus&db=pubmed&cmd=Retrieve&dopt=abstractplus&list_uids=10976182

To use this claim in court, one would need to demonstrate in a controlled (likely in a hospital setting) that you could cause a blood alcohol test to become positive while under control of police/physician without consuming any alcohol.
