stopped taking after 14 months developed itching and redness on skin in neck
Optional Information: Female , Age: 72Already Tried: stopped taking fosamax
Hello,
This is a tough question. Only a maximum of about 0.6% of Fosamax dosage is actually used by your body and the rest is excreted throught your kidneys. The part that is used by your body is incorporated into your bone matrix. That is, your bone cells grow around it and once covered by your bone it is no longer active. You can think of it as being similar to the grain of sand that is placed inside an oyster to cause the oyster to secrete nacre to make a cultured pearl. The half-life of this incorporated part is more than 10 years. Since it is no longer active it cannot cause you any problems.
