Can male steroid use cause permanent sterility
Optional Information: Female , Age: 32Already Tried: nothing
CustomerYes- steroid use can damage sperm production. The damage can be temporary, and once you stop using them, the sperm production should go back to normal.
Reply to Annie's Post: Annie stated that sperm production should go back to normal after steroid use is stopped but I would have liked her to tell me typically how long it takes once a man is off all steroids to regain their sperm production.
Since Annie is OFFLINE would you like me to comment about your specific additional question ?

CustomerThere are no statistics as far as how long after stoppage of steriods that sperm production will get back to normal. In some cases it might be permanent damage, but the only way to know for sure is to get tested by your urologist. Besides affecting sperm count and infertility, steroids can also cause shrinking of the testicles, baldness, development of breasts, and increased risk for prostate cancer.
I have a different take on the question asked...Use of anabolic steroids while generally causing temporary infertility can sometimes even lead to testicular atrophy and permanent infertility. To answer your specific second question, in case of stoppage of steroids it can take any time between 4 months to 1 year for the sperms to regain normal shape and function, read hereand here
