Drainage from the sinuses into the throat (a.k.a. postnasal drip
) is very common -- and very annoying.
Treatment will very somewhat depending on the cause. Standard treatments include:
1.) Reducing secretions production with an over-the-counter antihistamine -- such as Benadryl.
2.) Thinning secretions (to make them easier to clear) using an over-the-counter expectorant -- such as Mucinex
3.) Flushing secretions by irrigating -- usually with a saltwater solution.
Be sure to see a doctor if your symptoms include fever and/or headache -- or, if they do not improve with home therapy.
