will adipex show up in a drug test

Resolved Question:

I don't know if adipex is considered a "drug"
that would cause someone to loose their job if
they were drug tested,or drug tested for new employment.

Because Phentermine is similar to amphetamine -- its presence in your
system will cause a 'false positive' on an initial (first) drug
screening.

Initial screenings are less precise -- and therefore less
expensive. When an initial drug screening shows a positive -- a
more thorough second drug screening is used to determine what substance
triggered the positive reading in the initial drug screening.

The second drug screening should pinpoint the presence of post -- thus
showing your employer that you're not taking an illegal substance.

The safest way to proceed with this is to let them know -- at the
initial drug screen -- everything you are taking (or have taken
recently). This will help them to be prepared to appropriately
pinpoint the source of any 'false positive' readings which may occur.

Reply to Oreport's Post: How long is this drug present in your system,24,48,72 hrs after taking?

Can the presence of this drug in your system cause an employer to let you go from your job?
Expert:  Steve -- a.k.a. Oreport replied 9 years ago.
Adipex (Phentermine) is an over-the-counter -- legal -- diet pill (appetite suppressant).

Because this is a legal drug, its presence in your system -- even if it
shows up on in employment drug test -- is not grounds for you to be
fired from (or not hired for) a job.

As I said before, because Adipex (Phentermine) is similar to some
illegal drugs (such as amphetamine) it may produce a 'false positive'
on an employment drug test -- but, this positive reading will not
indicate which specific drug is present.

Because of this, when an employment drug test shows a positive reading
-- a second (more expensive) drug test is done to determine which
specific drug is present in the person's system.

The second drug test should show that the drug in your system is indeed Adipex (Phentermine) -- a legal drug.

Since no illegal drug will have been found in your system your employer
(or potential employer) will have no grounds for negative action
against you.

I was unable to find any information regarding how long Phentermine remains in your system after taking it.

Let me know if you need more input. If not, thanks for the
opportunity to assist you... I would really appreciate your honoring my
efforts by 'pushing the button' and Accepting this answer. Adding
a bonus -- should you wish to do so -- is always warmly welcomed.

Good Luck!
